by Stephanie Gookin last modified 2008-01-21 15:45

Rich Meisel, a genetics student working in the Schaeffer Lab, was awarded the Alumni Association Dissertation Award for his dissertation, entitled "Gene Duplication and Chromosomal Rearrangement in Drosophila Genomes." Rich has studied how the gene content and organization of genomes evolve. This includes examining the mechanisms giving rise to chromosomal inversions and gene duplications, the evolutionary dynamics of duplicated genes, and the effects of sex chromosomes on gene content.
