"This report examines sustainability at Penn State using 34 different indicators distributed among 10 university "systems." ... For each indicator we present data that attempt to gauge if we are moving toward or away from sustainability. ... This report was not commissioned by Penn State, but it was conducted by people who care greatly about this institution. ... The intent of this report is not simply to supply answers but to raise questions. The questions center on research ethics, the wisdom of continual growth, the openness of decision making, the uncritical acceptance of technology, and the moral responsibilities of the university--in short, questions that we believe all vital institutions should discuss."
