tabWelcome to the Green Destiny Council (GDC) webpage. We are an association of students, faculty, and staff committed to promoting ecological responsibility at Penn State. The council believes that institutions of higher education can be leverage points in the transition to a sustainable society in so far as they model sustainable practicies and foster ecological literacy.

  • A. Green Destiny Publications: The students, staff and faculty of Green Destiny Council are working to incorporate ecological literacy and ecological responsibility into Penn State education and operations.
  • B. Steps Toward a Sustainable University: Penn State has taken four important steps toward sustainability: 1) Indicators Report, 2) Ecological Mission, 3) Adoption of Mission by Senate and President, and 4) Finance and Business Strategy for Environmental Stewardship.
  • C. Green Destiny Projects: 2001-03: The overall goal of Green Destiny's projects is to "AWAKEN" the population--students, staff, faculty, and administration--of this large and influential American university. But "awaken" to what? First to the awe and wonder of life on Planet Earth; second, to the dreadful beating humans are inflicting on Earth; and, third, to the remarkable opportunity humans now have to move away from "domination over" to "partnership with" the community of life on Earth.

This campus "awakening" process is already underway at Penn State University and we invite Penn State students to get involved. Depending on your interests and talents, it is likely that one of Green Destiny's four ongoing projects (See below) will interest you.
